How Our Teachers Really Get to Know Their Students

Of our nearly 50 faculty members, 65 percent have master’s degrees or Ph.D.s in their chosen fields; and 80 percent have taught for over a decade. But the most valuable thing about our teachers is the strong relationships they build with their students. Learning at ULS is fueled by authentic, transformative relationships between teachers and students.

  • “ULS is for life: we create relationships. The kids aren’t just our students. They end up being people we actually want to spend time with outside of classes, and we do that all the time.”

  • “The level of relationship that they develop with their teachers is amazing. Every one of my son’s teachers has reached out to me personally through email or conversation. They really know my child and really care about him doing his best — and not some arbitrary measurement of best, but helping him to bring out the best in himself.”

  • “I think I speak for a lot of us when I say Mr. Flaherty is one of my favorites. He has a way of making his lectures super engaging. He allows us to have fun and be creative. He’s always super silly with us, and jokes about giving us C-minuses on tests. Whenever I see him in the hallway, he’s always smiling, and he asks me how my week is going.”
