Job Description
University Lake School (ULS) is seeking a talented, effective, and dedicated Upper School math teacher who is passionate about impacting academic achievement and making a difference in the lives of students through high-quality instruction. This appointment is valid for the second semester of the 2025-26 school year and will include classes such as Algebra II, Precalculus, and Advanced Placement Calculus I. The right candidate may extend the appointment into the 2026-2027 school year.
Essential Functions and Expectations
- Understand the unique developmental, social, and academic needs of the adolescent student.
- Serve as a mentor to students in the areas of organizational habits, social leadership, and academic excellence.
- Care about students, within and beyond the classroom, and exhibit enthusiasm for the topics one teaches by developing lessons, classroom experiences, and assessments that encourage student inquiry and discussion.
- Demonstrate expertise in the assigned content area while exhibiting enthusiasm for the topics taught and developing lessons, classroom experiences, and assessments that encourage student inquiry and discussion.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Collaborate as a team player with teaching colleagues and administrators. Partner with parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to communicate effectively and frequently with them.
- Market the school with a willingness to showcase one’s teaching and communicate with prospective students and families.
- Support school activities by attending, participating, and assisting with school events as required, such as Open Houses and other large-scale community events.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required, as well as take on supervisory roles such as advisor and duties such as lunch.
- Commit to ongoing professional development via an annual program of research, workshop attendance, and visiting other classes and schools.
- Learn new skills as changing pedagogy dictates.
- Commit to timely and professional grading and communication with all stakeholders.
- Model self-disciplined, flexible, and ethical behavior.
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in education, mathematics, or related field. Strong preference for those who have also studied the fundamentals of middle through high school education.
- Minimum one year of experience or student teaching in a similar environment.

Position Summary
University Lake School (ULS) is seeking a talented, effective, and dedicated administrator who will foster great relationships with staffulty, parents, and students. The successful candidate will be a charismatic leader skilled in relationship management and high-stakes communication, adept at serving as a key liaison for faculty, staffulty, parents, and students. This individual will handle day-to-day operational support and contribute to a dynamic, flexible, safe, and joyful environment. Working closely with the Division Head, this role offers an exceptional opportunity for an emerging leader to develop their administrative skills with the possibility of assuming increased individual oversight and responsibility for specific program areas over time. The right candidate may extend the appointment into the 2026-2027 school year with opportunities to grow professionally as a school leader.
Essential Functions and Expectations
Collaborative Leadership and Operational Support
- Act as the essential leadership support for the Lower School division, leveraging active listening and exceptional emotional intelligence to communicate directly, calmly, and with empathy, especially in challenging or sensitive parental and personnel conversations.
- Support the Head of Lower School in the overall management of the division, stepping in to maintain continuity of supervision, safety, and school procedures when the Head of Lower School is away or engaged in other strategic matters.
- Oversee the daily operations of the Lower School by observing, mentoring, and partnering with students and staffulty, setting a positive tone for the school day.
- Assist the Head of Lower School in the review and refinement of divisional policies and procedures.
- Represent the Lower School proudly at school events and community functions, serving as an ambassador for the division’s mission and values, in coordination with the Division Head.
Personnel Support and Faculty Development
- Partner with the Division Head in the recruitment, interviewing, and retention of exceptional Lower School faculty.
- Conduct formal and informal observations and provide direct, constructive feedback to faculty to ensure continuous professional growth and adherence to school standards, as directed by the Head of Lower School as Assistant Head of School for Learning
- Assist the Head of Lower School in the ongoing management of faculty performance and professional development plans.
- Plan and co-lead Lower School faculty meetings and administrative check-ins, driving the division's internal communication and professional learning.
- Act as a primary mentor and resource for new faculty throughout the year.
Communication, Community, and Student Relations
- Serve as a key administrative point of contact for parents, facilitating communication and support alongside the Head of Lower School.
- Consult with the Head of Lower School to address and resolve complex student discipline, behavioral, and serious academic counseling situations, ensuring a consistent, compassionate approach.
- Lead critical, goal-oriented parent meetings (often alongside the Division Head or relevant faculty) to compassionately discuss student performance, behavioral challenges, and sensitive school decisions.
- Assist the Head of Lower School in ensuring transparent and consistent communication among administration, faculty, and the parent body.
- Understand the unique developmental, social, and academic needs of the early childhood and pre-adolescent student.
- Collaborate as a team player with teaching colleagues and administrators.
- Support a sense of community among faculty through a positive learning environment consistent with the school’s philosophy.
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s in education or a related field. Preference may be given for those with related advanced degrees.
- Minimum one year of experience in an administrator or school leadership role.

Job Description
We are seeking a kind and dedicated Afternoon Preprimary Assistant Teacher. This individual will provide a safe and welcoming late-day experience for Lower School students and support preprimary teachers as they ready the students for the end of the day, scheduled to be 2-5:30 p.m. on school days. The assistant will work with preprimary teachers from 2-3 p.m. and then in the Stay and Play room of the Lower School from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. M-F, and will provide care and nurturing in the following ways:
- Support our youngest students and their teachers as they wake from nap.
- Set up artistic and building experiences to keep children engaged,, as well as use the playgrounds and gym when available.
- Keep track of who is in attendance and what time they arrive.
- Greet all children and support any children who are having trouble transitioning.
- Greet parents and answer the Stay and Play phone.
- Attend to minor emergencies and first aid needs.
- Notify the Stay and Play Director, the LS Head, and the LS Admin Assistant if there are any challenges or emergencies
Education & Experience
- Should be at least 18 years old, with coursework in early childhood education or an Associate's Degree.
- Minimum one year of experience or student teaching in a similar environment.
A Candidate Should Demonstrate:
- Familiarity with or excitement about the Reggio Emilia approach to learning.
- Knowledge of teaching principles, practices, techniques, and approaches.
- Strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate child development.
Compensation is $15-$17/hour depending on experience.

- enrich our program with targeted course offerings
- meet curricular objectives not covered by current staffulty, or
- curate an academic environment specific to the needs of current students.
Requirements
The Scholar is typically responsible for specific coursework and is also encouraged to discover ways of engaging the community of learners - with hands, heart, and mind - that contribute most to the life of the School and their own experience in it. This might include mentoring, college prep, athletics, clubs, campus outdoor initiatives, or other extracurriculars.
