Our Strategic Plan

Why ULS is Planning Ahead for a Better Tomorrow

The strategic planning process ensures that we are at the forefront of independent college-preparatory education. We are building the future of our school, but we are starting here and now. Thanks to a successful strategic planning process, we are already implementing the vetted and approved initiatives through the year 2025.

This process dovetails with the completion of a renewed accreditation process through the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS). ULS current and past parents, alumni, alumni parents, students, faculty and staff all had a voice in this effort.

Our Vision

Empowering students to lead and thrive in a global community.

Our History

Leaving the Big City Behind

After WWII a group of Lake Country parents decided they didn't want to send their children a half hour east to Milwaukee to find a great education. They started the first nursery school in Waukesha County. But where would they go next? Public schools were crowded and geared towards the needs of a rural population. Could the virtues of a rural life be ingredients for a fantastic learning environment with the sort of attention and care that they had experienced in top urban independent schools? An experience that could marry hardscrabble pioneering ways with the highest academic preparation for college and beyond?

A Legacy of Growth and Tradition

On September 15, 1958, University Lake School opened in temporary quarters with 45 students in grades 7 through 10. At the end of the first school year, students moved to Nagawicka Road with the gift of the Vettelson farm.  As word of this remarkable school in the woods spread, so did demand, and the as the students grew, so did the School. Today, the legacy and rich traditions continue to be celebrated by our community, with new families standing side-by-side with founding families to support the ULS mission to deliver an incomparable education.
