University Lake School Wins Alpine Skiing State Championship

ULS Skiers Win the Women’s Team Championship at the 35th Wisconsin State High School Ski and Snowboard Championship in La Crosse, WI.
The University Lake School Women’s Varsity Alpine Ski Team won its second state championship in five years, and third all-time this weekend (February 14th and 15th) in La Crosse, WI. The competition was held at Mt. La Crosse Ski Resort and featured high school teams from across the state such as La Crosse Central-Logan, Verona, Wausau, Arrowhead, and Muskego. The competition consisted of three races over two days – Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Super Giant Slalom – with points awarded for the top four times of each team, and fewest team points winning the championship.
The ULS women’s team consisted of seniors Hillary Rolfs, Tonie Michaels, and Katie Zastrow, juniors Piper Rosenheimer and Shelby Bourdo, and sophomores Hannah Glavas and Molly Seidel. The team won the state championship with 192 total points across three events, topping Arrowhead, Kettle Moraine, Oconomowoc, and Mukwonago high schools with 221 points, 327 points, 414 points, and 444 points, respectively.
- Hillary Rolfs was 4th overall with 18 total points, from 3rd, 9th, and 6th place finishes in Slalom, GS, and Super G.
- Piper Rosenheimer was 10th overall with 37 total points, from 8th, 17th, and 12th place finishes.
- Tonie Michaels was 16th overall with 53 total points from 15th, 23rd, and 15th place finishes.
- Molly Seidel was 33rd overall with 116 total points from 29th, 42nd, and 45th place finishes.
- Shelby Bourdo was 50th overall with 181 total points from 126th, 25th, and 30th place finishes.
- Hannah Glavas had a 43rd place finish in Slalom.
- Katie Zastrow had a 75th place finish in Super G.
Hillary Rolfs and Piper Rosenheimer were selected to the All-State Team and are eligible to race in the High School National Championships in New Hampshire later this year, while Tonie Michaels was selected as an alternate. Additionally, Stephen Johnson qualified to race in the state championship as an individual, and was selected as an alternate for the men’s All-State Team. Stephen had an 11th place finish in GS, and a 17th place finish in Super G.
